Why You Should Use a Tailbag in Summer

A lot of you have been wondering, “When should I use my tailbags, and should I use them during the summer heat?” The short answer is yes, you should use your tailbags during the summer heat! We’ve got all of the BioMane expert tips here, so look no further!

When using a tailbag, we highly recommend taking the tailbag off every 7-10 days so the tail can be redone. “Redone” means you’ll want to wash it, shampoo it, condition it, braid it, condition again, then put the tailbag back on. That’s it! In between those washings, be sure to keep the tail in a tailbag.

We know that flies and bugs are a lot worse in the summer and your horse needs its tail to protect itself. In our experience, the BioMane Tailbag still allows a horse to fight flies. However, if you would like to provide extra fly protection we recommend investing in fly traps, fly spray, and fly masks.

You may be thinking to yourself, what’s the point of all this work if the tailbag stays on 90% of the time? Because taking your tailbags off and showing up with amazing horses to competitions or shows makes it all worth it. After all of your hard work, you’re going to want to make sure everyone can see those gorgeous results! When those heads start turning in the arena, you’ll know what we’re talking about.

Remember, we suggest that you remove the tailbag and redo the tail every 7-10 days. Feel free to take the tailbag off for shows and competitions, but when they’re at home and in their pens, the tailbag should definitely stay on! By keeping your horse's tail in a tailbag during the summer months, you'll keep its tail protected and see gorgeous results all year long.
