Why Your Horse Blanket Needs to Fit Just Right
Colder weather means it’s time to blanket and hood your horses. However, if your horse’s blanket doesn’t fit properly, it could cause irritation and do some serious damage to your horse’s mane this winter. We strongly recommend blanketing and hooding your horses. When selecting blankets and hoods, make sure that you properly measure your horse so that you get the perfect size. It's important that your horse blankets don't rub near the top of the withers. We see this mistake more often than any other blanketing mistake. If the blanket doesn't fit properly, your horse won't like wearing it! The less irritation the better. You want to try to take away any reason that horse might have to want to rub its mane on the fence or panel. Using a hood during the winter is a great option for protecting the mane. If you find the right hood, it can actually make the blanket more comfortable for your horse. Rather than the blanket rubbing on the withers, it will rest on the hood and cause less irritation to your horse.
